Lisa Redmon, the owner of Redmon as lived in Napa Valley for 45 years. She began making wine 20 years ago in her garage and today produces 1,500 cases per year that are sold only through the winery.
“I spent my teenage years working at my family’s A&W restaurant situated right across the street from St. Helena High on Highway 29 in the Napa Valley. My dad made a special deal with the school so that I could leave class early each day to run over and work the lunch hour at the restaurant to help out our family. I learned a lot about hard work during those years!”
Doug White, the owner of Beyond the Label, is a third-generation native of St. Helena and a tour guide in Napa Valley. He started his company in 2012 and offers private, curated tours introducing his clients to some of the best small wine producers in Napa Valley.
“As a kid, my weekend entertainment included riding our bikes in the vineyards, throwing grapes at each other and sending the tourist who stopped us looking for the winery called Falcon Crest to Lake Berryessa instead!”
Jason and Laura Ray, the owners of Strala Vineyards, made their way to the Napa Valley region in 2000 to care for the vineyards of some of the pioneers of the Napa Valley. Their company, Napa Select Vineyard Management, today farms 120 acres and 65 ranches.
“In 2005 I was working in a vineyard as an employee and Ernie Giovannoni popped out of a bush and told me, “You can make a lot of money working for someone else, but you’ll never get rich,” said Jason Ray. “Then he said, ‘Why don’t you take my ranch over as your first?’ Five days later I started my own business!”
