A trip that Joe Phelps took to Italy in the late 1960s changed the course of his life forever. He returned home with the dream of founding a winery. Now your dreams will come true when you and one other couple fly business-class with Joseph Phelps’ son, Bill Phelps, and his wife Andrea to visit some of Joe’s favorite Italian destinations.

During your stay, you will travel to the famed Gaja wine estate in Barbaresco,
Piedmont for a one-of-a-kind winery visit hosted by 4th generation vintner Angelo Gaja and members of his family. There, you’ll explore their 250-acre vineyard estate and learn about the history and wines of this internationally acclaimed winemaking estate.

Your extravaganza will culminate in an exclusive dinner for ten at the Joseph Phelps winery prepared by Joe’s long time friend, celebrity chef Michael Chiarello--owner of the acclaimed Napa Valley restaurant Bottega and the new Coqueta in San Francisco. Michael has authored many books and has hosted shows on PBS, Food Network and Cooking Channel. Each course will be carefully paired with Joseph Phelps’ wines to showcase the winery’s forty-year history.

This lot includes forty of Joe’s favorite wines, one from each of Joseph Phelps’ first forty vintages, as noted below. Included are priceless early vintages of Insignia, Backus Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, along with a large-format Insignia from Phelps’ milestone 40th harvest in 2012.
