About winery: Founded by John Benson in 1885, Far Niente prospered until the onset of Prohibition in 1919, when the winery ceased operation and the buildings and estate were abandoned. Sixty years later, in 1979, Gil and Beth Nickel purchased the old stone shell of a winery and spent three years restoring the building to its original, 19th century grandeur. During restoration the name, "Far Niente," which romantically translated means "without a care," was found carved in stone on the front of the building. In 1998, Far Niente was reunited with its past when a bottle of 1886 Far Niente Sweet Muscat, intact with its original cork, capsule and label, was found in a wine cellar in Marin County, California. Now on the National Register of Historic Places, Far Niente produces critically acclaimed, estate bottled Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon wines that are renowned for their consistent house style and ability to evolve with extended age.

About winery: The 15-acre Gemstone Estate vineyard is truly a study in terroir. Situated on a gradual, west-facing slope in the Yountville appellation of the Napa Valley, this complex and diverse site has gravelly alluvial soil layered over loamy sandstone bedrock, avoiding the vigor of deep, rich soil. The vineyard is divided into 18 micro-blocks; including nine clones of Cabernet Sauvignon, two clones each of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot and one clone of Chardonnay. All of the vines are densely planted to a variety of rootstocks carefully matched to the soil. About winery: J. Davies Vineyards is located on the historic Schramsberg property in Calistoga, CA which is part of the Diamond Mountain District appellation of Napa Valley. Originally founded in 1862 by Jacob Schram, the 218 acre property was re-established by sparkling wine producers, Jack and Jamie Davies in 1965. Over time, it was discovered that the vineyards surrounding the winery, which were planted in 1965 to the traditional Methode Champenoise grape varietals of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, were better suited to the Bordeaux varietals of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The 2008 J. Davies, “Dark perfumed aromas of blueberry and brambleberry are accentuated with mocha, vanilla cream, and tobacco. The palate is bold, complex and fruitful. Wild berry compote and black cherry flavors mingle with notes of black tea and dark chocolate. All aspects are seamlessly brought together with fine grain tannins that sustain a long and luxurious finish.” - Sean Thompson & Hugh Davies, Winemakers This Bordeaux blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Malbec, 4% Petit Verdot was aged in 85% new French oak barrels for 22 months. Additionally, this wonderful eighth vintage has been allowed one additional year in bottle to blend and mature even more gracefully. Estate grown on the Schramsberg property, the wine has become a true expression of our Diamond Mountain hillside vineyards. Only 2,069 cases were produced with magnums and three liters also available in limited quantities.

About winery: John Anthony is a small production winery owned an operated by Michele & John Anthony Truchard. In the late 1800’s Jean Marie Truchard, the great grandfather of John Anthony Truchard, arrived in the US from France and purchased, with gold bullion, 500 acres in Texas with the idea of making wine to serve the local community of Cat Springs. The vineyards were planted and the winery was built but as the grapes began to ripen they rotted on the vine due to the humidity of the region. For his generation and the next the Truchard family lived off the land raising cattle and farming. Tony Truchard, the grandson of Jean Marie and the father of John Anthony, picked up where Jean Marie left off and through a twist of fate purchased property in Napa California in the early 1970’s. John Anthony was raised in family tradition of farming and worked hand in hand with his father learning the wine business. It was during this time he learned to enjoy the hard work, dedication, and focus required to produce world class grapes that yield world class wines. In 1997 John Anthony Truchard began leasing and managing vineyard property with the goal of one day producing a small quantity of high end wines to share with friends and family. The idea was simple – pick the ideal climate and locations for the fruit, choose the best vine stock available, care and tend to each vine’s needs, work with the best winemaker available, and share the end result with those who will most appreciate it. Fortunately his wife Michele shared his passion and together in 2003 they crushed what would become their first vintage of Cabernet and Syrah. About winery: The thin rocky soils and rugged terrain on Mount Veeder make farming the vineyard a challenge. Cultivation and harvesting are done entirely by hand. Water is scarce and drains quickly through the volcanic mountain soil. The vines grow slowly and produce small clusters and intensely concentrated berries giving us extremely low yields; as little as half that of vineyards on the valley floor. Farming on the mountain is definitely demanding. But were rewarded with wines that show intensity and depth, with rich, earthy tannins and bold, dark fruit flavors.

Sullenger vineyard property, construction of a cutting-edge winery facility housed within a vintage 1880s farmstead was completed in the summer of 2003, when the winery officially opened to the public. About winery: An avid horse woman, Anne Vawter, Owner and Winemaker, named her wine label in honor of her red mare, Paradigm, who was a bonus given to her during her time at Paradigm Winery. The inaugural release of Red Mare Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2007 vintage, sold out in just two months. In addition to her Cabernet Sauvignon, Anne also produces a Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc and has recently added a Sonoma Chardonnay. Anne sources fruit meticulously from very small, well-respected vineyards throughout the Napa Valley, from a cool enclave of the Carneros to a hill top in Coombsville, and northward on the Valley floor in Oakville, Rutherford and St. Helena. Her 2011 Chardonnay hails from a choice location in the famed Russian River Valley of Sonoma. Anne looks for vineyards with unique qualities and distinctive character that will come together in the blend to produce a layered and beautifully balanced wine.

About winery: Bob and Jan MacDonnell purchased their first parcel of Napa Valley land in 1980 and today own over 400 acres, all in the Rutherford AVA. By 1986, they were producing primarily Cabernet Sauvignon grapes that they sold to some of the valley’s most famous wineries including Beaulieu, Grgich Hills, Freemark Abbey, Franciscan, and others. From these early wines made in nearby wineries, the family learned that winemaking begins in the vineyard and that a commitment to produce top quality wines must include an integrated viticultural and winemaking program. In 2001, Miles and Ryan MacDonnell, now managing Round Pond, produced their first wine from one of their favorite Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard blocks. About winery: The Truchard Estate Vineyard encompasses 383 contiguous acres, of which 270 acres are planted. The vineyard is a series of hills and valleys, and contains a variety of soils: clay, shale, sandstone, volcanic rock and ash. The various combinations of terrain, geology, and marine-moderated temperatures provide unique wine growing conditions. Currently the vineyard grows 10 different grape varieties, making it one of the most diverse estate vineyards in California. Only 20% of the grapes from the Truchard Estate Vineyard are reserved for Truchard wines. The wines are hand-crafted using traditional wine making techniques, and exemplify the high quality fruit of this unique estate. They are truly: "wines with a sense of place". Truchard wines have garnered much critical appreciation. Wines from the 1994, 1996, and 1997 vintages have been included in the Wine Spectator's Top 100 wines of the world. The winery was selected as the "Estate Winery of the Year" by Wine & Spirits in 1997 and 1998.

About winery: Vineyard 7 & 8 was purchased in 1999 by John & Louise Steffens. The vineyards, originally planted in 1985, are located at the top of Spring Mountain at the 2020 foot elevation. Currently the vineyards are comprised of eight acres of cabernet sauvignon and four acres of chardonnay. The vision of Vineyard 7 & 8 is to make truly great wines with elegance, finesse, balance and longevity expressing the wonderful terroir of Spring Mountain. Luc Morlet, formely the Director of Winemaking at Peter Micahel Winery, joined the team starting with the 2007 harvest. Taking on the role of Winemaker, Luc’s attention to detail and experience with Bordeaux style wines will become a great asset in helping us craft the highest quality wines from our vineyards. In 2006, Wesley Steffens, previously the cellarmaster at Harlan Estate, began overseeing the management of the new winery as well as take on the role of Assistant Winemaker. Pete Richmond of Silverado Farming Company also joined the team in 2006 to manage operations in the vineyards and begin working on the development of new vineyards. The new state-of-the-art winery on the property allows us to control all of the winemaking operations to an even greater degree than before. Construction of the winery and aging cave for Vineyard 7 & 8 began in 2004 and was used for the first time with the 2006 vintage. One more step in our quest.
